Mayor Sarno joined representatives from the American Cancer Society led by Community Development Manager Mashoun Choudhury, for a special Luminaria Cermony on the steps of City Hall last Friday evening. Candles placed inside white bags were displayed on the City Hall steps to spell out "Hope" as the evening honored and remembered those lost to cancer, and to bring hope to those who are fighting it.
Mayor Sarno was glad to be supportive of this event, especially given he recently proclaimed September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in the City of Springfield. He said, “We all know family and friends who deal with this medical challenge. It’s important that we stand in solidarity to rid ourselves of this terrible sickness through medical breakthroughs, thoughts, prayers and encouragement.”
