Mayor Domenic J. Sarno states, “In speaking to Commissioner John Barbieri and Springfield Police Department narcotics officers yesterday after more successful major raids and arrests were made that took 21,000 bags of heroin off our streets; ‘I remain hopeful that our court system will hold these violent repeat gun-toting, gangbanging, drug-trafficking offenders, who deal this poison, off of our streets and out of our neighborhoods!’ Even though many a times these negative individuals are let go on very low bail and/or limited bail restrictions, under the leadership of Commissioner Barbieri and our brave and dedicated men and women in blue, overall crime is down 20% in Springfield. When I’m out in all of our diverse neighborhoods, this is what our residents want – a continued crackdown on these negative individuals. Again, I commend D.A. Gulluni, SPD and our state and federal task force partners for their/our continued crackdown on these peddlers of poison.”
