Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and Springfield Fire Department Commissioner Joseph Conant welcomed Springfield’s newest class of firefighters during a ceremony at the Raymond M. Sullivan Safety Complex this morning.
The seven new firefighters were part of a class of 21 that graduated at the Department of Fire Service’s Springfield campus earlier this month, after successfully completing a 50 day recruit training program. They are: Yamille O. Batista, Ricardo A. Collins, Lewen J. Cot...te, Justin M. Mestre, Luis A. Montanez Jr., Ernie Santiago and William C. Torres.
Mayor Sarno noted that as others run away from burning buildings, firefighters are the ones running in to save lives and structures. He said, “My congratulations and thanks to our new firefighters and their families. It’s great to have you on our team and I appreciate your brave and dedicated services to our city. Godspeed.”
