STCC 2017 Leadership Conference

Friday, June 16, 2017

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno was one of the participating speakers today during the Springfield Technical Community College 2017 Leadership Conference. Reflecting on his experience as Mayor of Springfield during good times and difficult times, he said it’s important to step back and assess situations fully before acting too quickly. As mayor, he surrounds himself with good people who offer their opinions, constructive criticism and work collaboratively. He stressed that soft skills... are critical for today’s youth, like dressing properly, being polite and being early to work. Lastly, he shared a piece of advice given to him by former Springfield Mayor Billy Sullivan. Mayor Sullivan said that, “whether you’re a mayor in a 1856 or now, you’re going to get beat up because you can’t make everyone happy all of the time. If you don’t have passion, then take the keys out of your pocket, put them on the desk, and leave.”
