Mayor Sarno & Sheriff Cocchi Team Up to Name Forest Park C3 Basketball Summer League After Legendary Retired Sheriff Mike Ashe

Thursday, June 8, 2017

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno is proud to continue to partner with the Hampden County Sheriff’s Department and Sheriff Nick Cocchi to name our Forest Park C3 Basketball Summer League after the legendary retired Sheriff Mike Ashe.

Mayor Sarno stated, “’The Rock’ is such a humble guy – he was looking to name it after anyone else but himself. Sheriff Cocchi and I felt it was a no-brainer to name it after ‘The Rock’ Sheriff Ashe. He has done so much for our community. This is an extremely important youth development initiative – keeping our teenagers busy in a positive way and away from the lure of the streets. By the way, Sheriff Ashe was a Forest Park neighborhood kid too – growing up on Bloomfield Street right around the corner from Forest Park Middle School.”

“Naming this league after my mentor Sheriff Ashe is a fitting tribute to a man who dedicated his life to the youth of Springfield and Hampden County,” said Sheriff Nick Cocchi. “Mike Ashe’s legacy is his commitment to the community he served for more than four decades.  His leadership of our department was always about fostering teamwork and naming the league after him is a perfect recognition of his efforts,” added Cocchi
