Remembering Officer Kevin Ambrose

Friday, June 2, 2017

Mayor Sarno stopped for a quiet moment of remembrance today at the Springfield Police Department's fallen officer memorial in honor of Officer Kevin Ambrose. This Sunday, June 4, 2017 will mark the five year anniversary of his death. Officer Ambrose gave the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty while protecting a young mother and her child. He will always be remembered and his memory upheld.

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno stated, “Sunday, June 4, 2017 will mark the fifth anniversary of SPD Officer Kevin Ambrose’s passing. We must never forget and always remember Officer Ambrose’s heroic efforts to save a young mother and her child. He made the ultimate sacrifice in order to secure their lives – ‘this is what our police officers do day in and day out without any fanfare’.

“Out of respect to the Ambrose family’s wishes, there will be no formal event, but Police Commissioner John Barbieri and the Springfield Police Department will once again mark the anniversary with respectful protocol at our Memorial Monument that honors our police officers who gave the ultimate sacrifice. I ask those who are able, as I will do, to please stop by this Memorial Monument to pay their respects to a fallen hero. May God rest Kevin’s soul and all those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, and May God protect our men and women in blue.”

Commissioner Barbieri added, “June 4th marks five years since the date of our tragic loss and the heroic sacrifice of Officer Kevin Ambrose.  In accordance with the wishes of the family of Officer Ambrose, the date will be commemorated in the same manner as in past years, by the placing of a marked cruiser with blue lights activated and a 24 hour volunteer police honor post vigil at the police memorial.  I will take a turn as one of the officers at the vigil.  There will be a moment of radio silence and reflection of Kevin’s heroism and his family’s loss.  Please keep Kevin, his family and his extended police family in your prayers. “
