Springfield Regional Chamber of Commerce Tours Union Station

Thursday, June 1, 2017

This morning, Congressman Richard E. Neal and Mayor Domenic J. Sarno welcomed the Springfield Regional Chamber of Commerce and local business representatives to Union Station for an exclusive tour before its grand opening later this month. Guests had the opportunity to tour the intermodal transportation hub and learn about the impact the station will have on downtown Springfield, as approximately 11,000 visitors are estimated to pass through it each day.

The tour comes on the heels of yesterday’s announcement that The Whistle Stop, a locally owned Italian restaurant and bar, will set up shop in the grand concourse area. Their lease marks the final retail space that was available in the main area. Additionally, Deputy Chief William Cochrane shared that the City of Springfield is moving forward with public safety initiatives aimed to station more police officers in downtown to work with the influx of visitors, while also increasing officers in the surrounding neighborhoods.

Union Station’s grand opening weekend kicks off on June 24th and continues on June 25th with a public open house from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. To learn more about the $90 million renovation, please visit: https://www.springfield-ma.gov/planning/index.php?id=27.
