Western Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association Holds 29th Annual Police Memorial Day Service

The Western Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association (WMCOPA) held their 29th Annual Police Memorial Day Service today at the Western Massachusetts Police Academy, on the campus of Springfield Technical Community College (STCC). Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, Chief of Staff Denise Jordan and Police Commissioner John Barbieri attended the ceremony to pay respects to the 47 fallen officers.  WMCOPA President Chief Bruce D. Spiewakowski of the Warren Police Department served as master of ceremonies,  with prayers given by Bishop Mitchell T. Rozanski. Remarks were given by STCC President Dr. John Cook, State Representative Angelo J. Puppolo Jr., and Lt. Maura Schiavina, MSP – C.O.P.S. Lt. Schiavina is the sister of SPD Officer Michael Schiavina, who lost his life in the line of duty in 1985.

The fallen officers hailed from the Athol Police Department, Deerfield Police Department, Franklin County Sheriff’s Department, Hadley Police Department, Hampden County Sheriff’s Department, Holyoke Police Department, Massachusetts State Police, Montague Police Department, North Adams Police Department, Palmer Police Department, Pittsfield Police Department, Springfield Police Department, Stockbridge Police Department, U.S. Secret Service, U.S. Department of Justice, and the Westfield Police Department.

Recognized from the Springfield Police Department were Officers Daniel J. Donovan, Adelbert St. Marie, Carl Rolf, John P. Sullivan Sr., Thomas F. Murphy, Raymond Moriarty, John W. Connors, Leo Hamel, Francis W. Sears, Walter C. Juskiewicz, William R. Berte, Richard D. Vigneault, Paul F. Mawaka, Michael Schiavina, Alain Beauregard and Kevin E. Ambrose.
