Mayor Sarno joined the Springfield Rescue Mission (SRM) in thanking their generous donors - the Community Foundation of Western Massachusetts, UPS and Ondrick Materials & Recycling - in funding a new box truck purchase. With a $25,000 grant from the Community Foundation of Western MA, $20,000 grant from UPS, and $11,000 grant from Ondrick Materials & Recycling, SRM was able to purchase a new 2017 Isuzu truck. The new truck will meet the operational needs, improve fuel efficiency and fulfill the resource requirements that are necessary to conduct programs at SRM's two facilities, 10 Mill Street and 148 Taylor Street.
SRM was established to serve the homeless and low-income populations in the Pioneer Valley. Over the past 124 years, 100% of the population served by the SRM have been homeless or in the low-income population. SRM expects to serve over 8,000 hungry and homeless men, women and children this year through the impact of these critical need programs: Men's Emergency Shelter Program, Food Service Programs, Men's New Life Rehabilitation program and Men's Transitional Living Program. SRM's purpose in all of its programs is to help individuals get back on their feet, whether it is a one-night stay in the emergency shelter, a nutritious meal or transitional living.
