Massachusetts Girls in Trades Conference and Career Fair

Friday, April 14, 2017

The Massachusetts Girls in Trades Advisory Board held the first Massachusetts Girls in Trades Conference and Career Fair for Western Massachusetts, held at Dean Technical High School in Holyoke yesterday. Holyoke Mayor Alex Morse welcomed the conference to the Paper City, and Chief of Staff Denise Jordan represented Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and the City of Springfield. Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito gave the keynote address to the girls in attendance.

The event was well attended with approximately 240 students and 30 educators from 12 high schools. These students and educators learned about different career pathways in the construction trades from union representatives, tradeswomen, state agencies, contractors, a pre-apprentice program and a post-secondary institution. Further, they participated in two workshops designed to share with educators and students about the ways one benefits from working in a union construction trade, and how to apply.
