Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and his Chief of Staff Denise Jordan, Director of Capital Asset and Construction Peter Garvey, Executive Director of Park, Buildings and Recreation Management Patrick Sullivan, Commissioner of Health and Human Services Helen Caulton Harris toured three construction sites today to receive project updates. Mayor Sarno and his staff visited the Paul J. Fenton Public Safety Annex, located at 50 East Street, the Raymond A. Jordan Senior Center in Blunt Park, and the South End Community Center on Marble Street.
Mayor Sarno said, “My administration continues its efforts and investments in improving our neighborhoods through these quality of life initiatives.”
Patrick Sullivan stated “The Park Department is very excited for the recreational opportunities that will be made available to our residents with the opening of the Raymond A. Jordan Senior Center and the New South End Community Center. These projects demonstrate Mayor Sarno’s commitment to the Youth and Seniors of our city. I have witnessed many mayors promising a dedicated senior facility and Mayor Sarno is delivering this dream to reality. The Park Commission is proud to be hosting these two facilities and Blunt and Emerson Wight Parks.”
Peter Garvey stated that the projects are moving along according to schedule, he went on to state that there are roughly 30 tradesmen working on each project every day. “The renovation of Paul J. Fenton Public Safety Annex is an existing 26,000 square foot facility; the project is approximately 50% complete and expected to be completed in November, 2017. The South End Community Center‘s 28,000 square foot project is approximately 70% complete and is expected to be completed in July, 2017 with completion of the Raymond A. Jordan Senior Center scheduled for mid-September 2017.”
Commissioner of Health and Human Services Helen Caulton Harris stated, “as I have traveled across the City of Springfield and have had conversations with our Seniors, they are excited that this long awaited Senior Center will soon be a reality. The seniors in the city are deserving of this state of the art facility that will serve generations of our residents. This building is a wise investment in the future of the health and wellness of the seniors in Springfield.”
Garvey added, “there is a lot of excitement from the users and the folks in the communities where the buildings are being completed.”
