City of Springfield to Celebrate Irish Heritage on St. Patrick’s Day

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and the City of Springfield will celebrate Irish Heritage with a series of events on St. Patrick’s Day tomorrow, March 17th. “I’d first of all like to thank our Springfield St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee for keeping Irish heritage and traditions strong. Irish-Americans have truly enriched our Springfield,” said Mayor Sarno. “Also, congratulations to all the award winners and this year’s Colleen Jillian Murphy and her court.”

Mayor Sarno will also proudly walk with the Springfield contingent during the annual Holyoke St. Patrick’s Day Parade. City Forrester Ed Casey is this year’s Springfield Parade Marshal. Marching with them are Executive Director of PBRM Patrick Sullivan, the winner of the John and Agnes Burke Award; Suzanne O’Sullivan Keenan, winner of the Paul G. Caron Award; Northern Tree Service representatives, winner of the Mary B. Troy Appreciation Award; and the Springfield Colleens 2017 Colleen Jillian Murphy and her court, Lily O’Connor, Lauren O’Neil, Margaret Rosemond and Hannah Tarpey.  The parade kicks off this Sunday, March 19th between 11:30 and 11:45 a.m.  For a full parade route and information please visit: http://holyokestpatricksparade.com/.

Mayor Sarno will attend the 9:00 a.m. Mass. 2017 Springfield Colleen Jillian Murphy will give the first reading. The public and the media are invited to attend.

Irish Flag Raising

The Irish Flag Raising will be held in conjunction with the Springfield St. Patrick’s Day Parade Committee on the City Hall steps immediately following the St. Patrick’s Day Mass. Mayor Sarno will offer a proclamation in recognition of St. Patrick’s Day, contributions made to the City of Springfield by the Irish community, and the city’s deep ties to Ireland. A reception will follow the flag raising in the Ante Room of City Hall on the second floor. The public and the media are invited to attend.
