Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and Congressman Richard E. Neal were at the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame yesterday to celebrate the 125th birthday of basketball. As part of the event, Mayor Sarno and Congressman Neal read "Hoop Genius" to a group of 70 students from Boland School, which chronicles the invention of the game by James Naismith at Springfield College in December of 1891. After hearing special recorded "happy birthday" messages from some of the sport's all-time greats like Larry Bird, Yao Ming, Rick Pitino and Magic Johnson, a Hall of Fame replica cake made by TLC's "Cake Boss" Buddy Valastro was cut for all to enjoy.
