Mayor Sarno received this poem from a veteran at the Hampshire College protest yesterday, due to the college's refusal to fly the American flag on campus.
Home of the Free, Because of the Brave
It is the Veteran, not the Teacher,
Who has given us freedom of religion
It is the Veteran, not the Reporter,
Who has given us freedom of the press
It is the Veteran, not the Poet,
Who has given us freedom of speech
It is the Veteran, not the Community Organizer,
Who has given us freedom to assemble
It is the Veteran, not the Lawyer,
Who has given us the right to a fair trial
It is the Veteran, not the Politician,
Who has given us the right to vote
It is the Veteran, not the Protester,
Who has given us the right to express opinion
It is the Veterans who serve their Country,
So that we can be FREE to enjoy the above.
