Group from Springfield's Sister City of Takikawa, Japan Visit the City

Three public officials and nine high school students from Takikawa Japan spent the day in the City of Springfield. Mayor Sarno was happy to welcome the group to his City Hall office for a special visit and an exchange of gifts.

The delegation was led by Shigekazu Sakamoto (vice-president of the Takikawa International Exchange), Yasuhiro Yamazuki (director of the Takikawa International Affairs Department) and Yasushi Akita, English teacher at Takikawa West High School. Mr. Yamauchi taught high school in Springfield for over a year.

The students, seven girls and two boys, are students at Kasei Junior High School, Takikawa High School, Takikawa-Nishi High School and Takikawa West High School.

The delegation's visited such Springfield attractions as the Basketball Hall of Fame, Forest Park, and the Lyman and Merrie Wood Museum of Springfield History.
