Mayor Domenic J. Sarno brought greetings to the Veteran of the Year and Parade Marshal awards yesterday at City Hall.
Mayor Sarno said, “Springfield has a strong reputation for always honoring, remembering, respecting and thanking our veterans and their families for their continued sacrifices and ultimate sacrifices they have made in the name of freedom. I congratulate Veteran of the Year Eric Rosa and Parade Marshal DA Anthony Gulluni for exemplifying the ideals and spirit of freedom.”
The Veteran of the Year Award is given on an annual basis to a Springfield resident who is a veteran and continuously volunteers their personal time to better our community and never seeks recognition for the work they’ve done. This year’s recipient of Eric Rosa, an Iraq Veteran, Springfield Firefighter and Owner/Instructor/Coach at Virtue Martial Arts and Fitness.
The position of Parade Marshal is awarded to an individual who strives to increase the quality of life for our community’s veterans through their personal and professional work. Hampden County District Attorney Anthony Gulluni will be honored as this year’s Parade Marshal.
Mayor Sarno proclaimed Wednesdays, November 2, 2016 as “Eric Rosa Day,” in the City of Springfield. Both Mr. Rosa and DA Gulluni received special congratulations from Congressman Richard E. Neal as well as citations from State Senator Eric Lesser and State Representative Carlos Gonzalez to acknowledge them on their respective honors.
