Railroad Safety Blitz at Wason Ave Train Tracks

Friday, September 23, 2016

A safety blitz to remind residents about the importance of railroad safety was held today  at the crossroads of the Wason Avenue train tracks. Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, Representative Carlos Gonzalez, City Councilor Adam Gomez, Mayoral Aide Mini Marrero, Jose Claudio of the New North Citizens Council Inc., and police officers helped spread the word on just how dangerous it is to cross train tracks that are in service.

Mayor Sarno stated, “It is imperative to the safety and wellbeing of our community that residents young and old know that crossing active train tracks is never, ever safe. I’m glad to stand with our partners in this initiative to share information that will help keep our residents safe, especially as more rail service is coming to our area with the opening of Union Station early next year.”

The safety blitz was held in conjunction with the Springfield Police Department, Baystate Health, U.S. Department of Transportation, Massachusetts Department of Transportation, Pan Am Railways, Amtrak Police Department, and the New North Citizens Council, Inc.
