Sewer Pipe Improvement Project and Traffic Information

Alden Street at Northumberland Street, Springfield, MA

On behalf of the Springfield Water and Sewer Commission, private contractors will rehabilitate and replace sewer pipes within Alden Street at the intersection of Northumberland Street as part of this year’s Infrastructure Improvements Project. Construction is scheduled to begin August 30, 2016, and continue for approximately two weeks. Typical construction hours will be Monday through Friday from 7:00AM to 4:00PM.

Due to the nature of this work, changes to traffic patterns and traffic delays are expected. Alden Street at the intersection of Northumberland Street will be reduced to a single lane with alternating traffic flow. Northumberland Street at the intersection of Alden Street will be closed to through traffic. Northumberland Street traffic will be detoured onto Carnavon Circle. Traffic will be managed with posted signs and police details. Drivers are encouraged to seek alternate routes when possible.

About the Infrastructure Improvements Project:

The described work is part of this year’s Infrastructure Improvements Project. On behalf of the Commission, private contractors will be performing water and sewer system upgrades at multiple locations within the City of Springfield. The project consists of replacing approximately 3,700 feet of sewer main pipe and approximately 7,400 feet of water main pipe, rehabilitation of approximately 6,300 of sewer main pipe, and replacement or rehabilitation of approximately 50 manholes.
