PRESS RELEASE: National Night Out Against Crime and Violence

On Tuesday, August 2, 2016, neighborhoods throughout Springfield are being invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the Annual “National Night Out” crime and drug and gang prevention event. National Night Out will involve over 10,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world.

National Night Out is designed to:

1) Heighten crime, drug and gang prevention awareness

2) Generate support for, and participate in, local anti-crime efforts

3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships

4) Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back

To celebrate National Night Out, residents in neighborhoods throughout Springfield and across
the nation are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with the neighbors, friends and police. Many neighborhoods throughout Springfield will be hosting a variety of special events.

“This is our continued C3 Policing model – a collaboration of law enforcement and neighborhoods working together as one to make a better Springfield,” said Mayor Domenic J. Sarno.

Please see the attached list of National Night Out events, sponsored by the Springfield Police Department.
