Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, Springfield Thunderbirds Executive Vice President Nathan Costa, Officially Reveal New Bruce Landon Way

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, Springfield Thunderbirds Executive Vice President Nathan Costa, and Springfield hockey officials were excited to officially reveal the newly installed street signs declaring the former Falcons Way as Bruce Landon Way.

Mayor Sarno said, “No one in recent modern day AHL Springfield professional hockey history deserves this fitting tribute more than Bruce Landon. Unquestioned has been Bruce’s head, heart and gut unselfish commitment to keeping professional hockey here in our Springfield.”

Last month, Mayor Sarno announced that the street would be named in honor of Landon for his unyielding commitment to the growth and success of AHL hockey in the City of Springfield since 1969. Known by many as “Mr. Hockey,” Landon is a former AHL goalie and AHL Hall of Fame inductee. Landon has had a successful career in the front office for Springfield’s teams, including the Kings and Falcons, and was instrumental in the recent acquisition of the new Springfield Thunderbirds. He will continue to serve as a consultant for the franchise.

“I am tremendously honored, but also very humbled. Words don’t express how I feel about this. I can’t thank the Mayor and the City Council enough, and also all the wonderful fans who got behind this. This is certainly a special moment for me and my family,” said Bruce Landon.

"Bruce Landon's career will be honored for providing enjoyment to millions of fans over the course of his career. Bruce leaves a legacy of contribution unsurpassed by any other single individual in the history of Springfield hockey, and his legacy has had a remarkable impact on the local business community. The Springfield Thunderbirds are proud to call 45 Bruce Landon Way our home," stated Executive Vice President, Nathan Costa.
