Mayor Domenic J. Sarno joined with Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh as well as town managers and administrators across the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in supporting Senate Bill 2119, An Act to Establish Pay Equity, for working women throughout the state.
Mayor Sarno said, “I am glad and honored to sign on. It’s only fair and just – same work, same pay – plain and simple.”
Unanimously approved by the Massachusetts Senate on January 28, 2016, S.2119 would prohibit employers from discriminating on the basis of gender when it comes to compensation, and requires that men and women be paid at the same rate for comparable work entailing similar skills, effort and level of responsibility. The bill has been referred to the House Committee on Ways and Means for consideration.
