Mayor Sarno Announces Demolition of 62 Bowdoin Street

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and City of Springfield Housing Officials announced the demolition of the long blighted property at 62 Bowdoin Street today at the property site at 2:15 p.m.

This is one more step in our efforts in neighborhood revitalization and a continuance of our fight against blight throughout the City of Springfield,” stated Mayor Domenic J. Sarno.

The City obtained a Court Order from Western Division Housing Court to demolish the building at 62 Bowdoin Street.  The property is severely fire damaged and has been deemed structurally unsound, a threat to public safety and ordered demolished by the Building Commission.  The City has recently foreclosed on the property and the land behind it. This property is being demolished with City of Springfield Demolition Bond funding and the City anticipates selling the property following demolition.

Asbestos abatement and demolition is being completed by Associated Building Wreckers of Springfield. The total cost of asbestos abatement and demolition is $42,735.00.

Environmental oversight of the projects is being performed by ATC of West Springfield.
