Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, Chief Development Office Kevin Kennedy, and Commissioner of Health and Human Services Helen Caulton-Harris introduced a new system of wayfinding signs today in Springfield's Metro Center. The City has hung 46 temporary signs throughout downtown through a partnership with the Springfield Business Improvement District (BID). Consulting firm Applied Wayfinding is in the process of designing a permanent system to build off of the temporary signs. Both the signs and consultant fee are funded through a 1422 grant secured by the City's Health and Human Services Department via the State Department of Public Health.
Mayor Sarno stated, "We have a very walkable downtown environment. Why not continue to enhance with not only convenient informational signage, but also to promote a good, healthy walk and jog too."
Wayfinding is a major unifying element for the City that will link specific destinations and landmarks with the goal of promoting Springfield as healthy destination where people can walk to meet their daily needs, as well as to visit the City's many attractions.
