Anthony King Celebrates 98th Birthday with a Reading of "A Home Run for Bunny"

Mayor Sarno and Superintendent of Schools Daniel Warwick, along with a Pottenger School class, helped ball player Anthony King celebrate his 98th birthday. King played on the historic American Legion Post 21 team of 1934 which gave up a tournament position in Gastonia, NC upon learning that their African-American teammate, Ernect "Bunny" Taliaferro, was not allowed to play. Mayor Sarno read aloud A Homerun for Bunny by Richard Anderson, based on the events in Gastonia. Anderson and Principal Vallerie Williams were also in attendance for the reading and discussion.
