EARL STREET ROOMING HOUSE SHUTDOWN

On Wednesday March 12, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. a combined effort from Springfield Police, Housing, Code Enforcement and Fire Departments conducted an inspection on Earl Street and ended up finding an illegal rooming house with a dozen people staying on the 2nd and 3rd floor units. In Addition to the illegal rooming house other violations included: no smoke detectors, means of egress blocked, over crowded units, illegal locks on bedroom doors, temporary wiring and trip hazards.

On this same inspection SPD Officers had two arrests coming out of this group effort. One person for possession of drugs and the other on a felony warrant. The owner has been ordered to relocate the other 10 occupants and bring the home into compliance.

The inspection was a result of a resident call to 3-1-1.
