Vinny DelNegro Day in Springfield, MA

December 6, 2013 – Springfield, MA – Mayor Domenic J. Sarno presented former NBA Star Vincent Joseph “Vinny” Del Negro with a Mayoral Proclamation honoring him as a hero in the great City of Springfield.  Del Negro, a native son of the City of Springfield who first excelled in the game of basketball on backyard courts in his Forest Park neighborhood, and on the courts in Parks all across the city is being honored by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Rotary Club of Springfield at their fourth annual “Service Above Self” event.  It is with great pride that the City of Springfield honors Vincent Joseph “Vinny” Del Negro for all of his accomplishments.

 

Vinny went on to become  a exceptional collegiate basketball player at North Carolina State playing for Coach Jim Valvano, and had a successful career as a professional basketball player playing for teams like the Sacramento Kings, Benetton Treviso of the Italian League, San Antonio Spurs, Teamsystem Bologna of Italy, Milwaukee Bucks, Golden State Warriors and Phoenix Suns.  Vinny also had a successful coaching career with the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Clippers.  Vinny is now serves as an analyst for Turner Sports and NBATV.

 

An exceptional person who in addition to his athletic and coaching skills, has done numerous off-the-court charitable work that assists children and their families through the Vinny Del Negro Endowment Fund and the Brightside for Families and Children.  It is with great pride that the City of Springfield honors Vincent Joseph “Vinny” Del Negro for all of his accomplishments.
