Mayor Domenic J. Sarno Announces Demolition of Blighted Property at 81-83 Tyler Street

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and City of Springfield Housing Officials announced today the demolition of 81-83 Tyler Street, which is set to begin on Monday, December 17, 2012.

This demolition is part of the City’s continued revitalization efforts in the Quincy Street area, and the partnership for the renewal of Old Hill. To date the City has demolished 14 structures as part of this effort, with another two planned in the coming months. These efforts have contributed to the rehabilitation and/or construction of 18 homes.

Mayor Sarno stated: “This is one more step in our efforts in neighborhood revitalization and a continuance of our fight against blight throughout the City of Springfield”.

The property at 81-83 Tyler Street has been an eyesore in the neighborhood for several years. The City obtained a court order to demolish the property from the Western Division Housing Court, and all costs associated with the demolition will be placed as a lien against the property.

The demolition is being completed by Associated Building Wreckers of Springfield at a cost of $41,851.70 and is being funded through Federal Community Development Block Grant Funds.

The demolition is set to begin 8:30 AM Monday and cleanup will continue throughout the remainder of the week.
