Mayor Domenic J. Sarno Extends Springfield Police Commissioner William J. Fitchet’s Contract

August 15, 2012Mayor Domenic J. Sarno announced today that he has extended Springfield Police Commissioner William J. Fitchet’s employment contract. The current employment contract in place between the City and the Police Commissioner commenced April 14, 2008 and was scheduled to end April 13, 2013. The City and Commissioner Fitchet agreed to extend their original employment contract so that its ending date will be June 30, 2014.

"I am honored that Mayor Sarno continues to have faith in my ability as Police Commissioner and thank him for this opportunity and am also honored to lead the brave men and women who protect this great city every single day,” stated Springfield Police Commissioner William J. Fitchet.  “I am extremely proud of my officers and civilian staff who dedicate their lives serving the public.”

“Springfield is a great city and the streets are getting safer. There is still much more work to be done. I will continue to fight crime over the next two years making Springfield a better place to live, work and visit," added Commissioner Fitchet.  

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno stated “as the Commissioner indicates we have made strides but there is still much more work to do. I am very appreciative and respectful of his hands-on leadership, crime fighting and community engagement initiatives that he has put forth during these trying economic times and continuing state aid budgetary cutbacks and his dedicated and strategic efforts in dealing with the unprecedented weather disasters of 2011. He is a proven leader with a proven track record whose heart and soul is improving the overall quality of life in our Springfield.”
