MAYOR DOMENIC J. SARNO ORDERS REVOCATION OF ROYAL SEASONS RESTAURANT’S 2012 ENTERTAINMENT LICENSE FOLLOWING

April 12, 2012 - Mayor Domenic J. Sarno announced today that he has revoked that 2012 Entertainment License of Royal Seasons Restaurant & Bar.  The revocation is effective immediately and the decision follows a hearing conducted by a City Law Department Hearing Officer.  Mayor Sarno is the appointing authority for city issued entertainment licenses.

The hearing followed four separate incidents that had occurred at the 339 Boston Road establishment within a one week time span in January 2012:

  • January 10, 2012: Springfield Police Officers were dispatch to the parking lot of the establishment for a disturbance involving gunshots.  As officers approached the scene, one car sped off and a traffic stop was effectuated a short time later resulting in the recovery of a firearm from the vehicle.
  • January 15, 2012: A disturbance at the establishment necessitated the response of the Springfield Police Department because the disturbance could not be controlled. While officers were present, several males exited Royal Seasons and another physical altercation began.
  • January 17, 2012: Springfield Police Officers were once again dispatched for a disturbance involving three females who were engaged in a physical confrontation. Upon arrival, police officers observed that the establishment’s security personnel was not intervening in the disturbance and that patrons were leaving the establishment with “cups of liquid and ice” without being stopped by security while exiting.
  • January 18, 2012: A large crowd congregating in the parking lot of the establishment was observed by Springfield Police Officers who were patrolling the area.  Due to the size of the crowd, additional officers had to be called to the scene to assist with crowd disbursement.

“The repeated disturbances at this establishment have demonstrated that the health and safety of the patrons was compromised as a result of inadequate security,” stated Mayor Domenic J. Sarno. “The City of Springfield has an obligation to protect the safety of our City’s residents and visitors and violations of this nature create an unnecessary demand on the Springfield Police Department which could have an adverse effect on the public safety of individuals in other areas of the City.”
