Project Rebuild to Create Jobs, Stabilize Communities, Rehab More Homes in Springfield, throughout Massachusetts

BOSTON - U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) New England Regional Administrator Barbara Fields will join Springfield Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, Steve Carvalho, Acting Director of the Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development and other local officials in touring 176 Quincy Street in Springfield, a home rehabbed with HUD’s Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) funding. The Quincy Street property highlights the impact neighborhood stabilization efforts have had on revitalizing this Springfield neighborhood and demonstrate how the American Jobs Act and Project Rebuild can continue to revitalize neighborhoods, create jobs, and grow local economies throughout Massachusetts.

The City of Springfield has received more than $3.7 million in previous neighborhood stabilization efforts and municipalities like Springfield could benefit from the proposed $15 billion in funding for Project Rebuild. Project Rebuild incorporates new elements such as the inclusion of revitalization of commercial properties and partnerships with for-profit organizations and stronger partnerships with non-profit organizations to an already successful program. These efforts will help create more jobs and have a much more immediate impact to the local economy.
