MAYOR SARNO URGES ESTABLISHMENT TO VOLUNTARILY SURRENDER LICENSES PENDING HEARING AND REVIEW OF CLUB’S INTERNAL SECURITY PROCEDURES

October 18, 2011 – Mayor Domenic J. Sarno announced that he has directed the City’s License Commission to hold hearings regarding Sunday’s incident that resulted in the death of Devada Wannamaker.

“The City of Springfield has an obligation to protect the safety of our City’s residents and visitors, stated Mayor Domenic J. Sarno. This type of violent crime has no place in our City.”  Initial reports from the Springfield Police Department indicate that the decedent was shot inside Club Illusion.

The License Commission will schedule a hearing upon receipt of a completed police report regarding the incident. “In the interim, I am calling on Club Illusion’s management to voluntarily surrender their licenses until a hearing can be held and an appropriate review of the establishment’s internal security procedures can be reviewed.”

Additional sanctions may be imposed upon the establishment by the License Commission following the hearing.
