TOWER SQUARE MARKS 40TH ANNIVERSARY WITH ANNOUNCEMENT
In an effort to make Cambridge College more accessible to local students, college representatives have decided to move the Springfield Regional Center to Tower Square in the downtown business district of Springfield, MA.
Regarding the move to Main Street in Springfield, Cambridge College President Deborah Jackson states “Cambridge College is delighted to partner with the City of Springfield and Tower Square to offer a high quality education in what will be a state of the art facility. In this new facility, we look forward to continuing our 20 year tradition of offering exceptional undergraduate and graduate education to working adults in Western Massachusetts and Connecticut.”
Mayor Domenic J. Sarno stated, “I’m elated that my Administration has worked hand-in-hand with President Jackson and Cambridge College to make this happen. Tower Square is a great location for the college - it fits right into our vision for downtown towards a more eclectic market rate and higher education focus.”
“We’re excited about the addition of Cambridge College, and we feel it will have a tremendous impact not only on Tower Square, but also on downtown Springfield as a whole. We look forward to accommodating their students at their new location,” commented Fred G. Christensen, Sr. Property Manager, Tower Square.
Cambridge College, a private non-profit college serving a diverse population of working adults, has had a Regional Center in Springfield since 1991. Prior to that the Regional Center was located in Northampton, MA, since 1977. Springfield was the first location outside of Cambridge, MA for Cambridge College. The Springfield Regional Center offers graduate degree programs in education, management, and counseling and psychology, many of which lead to licensure and certification. Undergraduate degrees are also offered in human services, management, and multidisciplinary studies.
Representatives from Cambridge College were on hand along with Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno, officials with MassMutual and CB Richard Ellis for a special news conference Thursday, October 27, 2011, at 11:30 a.m. in the Citywalk Cafes food court. The news conference was not only a public announcement of Cambridge College’s relocation to Tower Square, but also featured a special presentation by Mayor Sarno in recognition of Tower Square’s 40th anniversary.
