BACKGROUND

In July, Mayor Domenic J. Sarno hosted a gang summit at Springfield City Hall with representatives from the Mayor’s Violence Prevention Task Force, Sheriff’s Department, Police Department and District Attorney’s Office. The Mayor has also been meeting weekly with representatives from the FBI, U.S. Attorney’s Office, U.S. Marshall’s Office, State Police, DEA, DYS, School Department, Law Department, Attorney General’s Office and the Court’s Probation Department to discuss ongoing strategies for combating youth and gang violence. Tuesday’s press event will announce some of the collaborative initiatives that have been taking place.
