Solar Facility Proposed for Indian Orchard

April 26, 2011– Representatives from Western Massachusetts Electric Company and the Springfield Redevelopment Authority will present plans to redevelop S.S. Goodwin Street, formerly known as 225 Goodwin Street – Foundry Building at a special meeting hosted by the Indian Orchard Citizens Council on Wednesday, April 27th at 5:30 p.m., at the American Legion Hall located at 379 Oak Street, Indian Orchard

“This new solar project will help to advance the City of Springfield’s commitment to become a green community, reuses a former brownfield site and provides new tax revenues,” said Mayor Domenic J. Sarno. 

“WMECO’s proposed solar project is an important project for our city.  This new solar array will provide energy generation, enhance the region’s sustainability and strengthen the city’s clean energy brand,” said John Judge, Chief Development Officer for the City of Springfield.

The 12 acre site is owned by the Springfield Redevelopment Authority.  The former Foundry site recently underwent 18 months of environmental remediation using grant funds made available through the Department of Environmental Protection and MassDevelopment.
