Springfield Students Participated in the 2011 Kick Butts Day Event held at the Massachusetts State House

On March 23rd, 2011 students in the REACH Program, participated in the 2011 Kick Butts Day Event held at the Massachusetts State House.  They joined nearly 300 youth from the around the state in Boston and marched to the State House to attend an event with the Commissioner of the Department of Public Health, John Auerbach and meet with legislators to share data from surveys they collected which highlighted the increasing number of new tobacco products that are targeting youth.  One of our students, Tiffany Farrell who is a senior at the High School of Commerce, won the “Statewide Leadership Award” which is the top prize given at the annual Kick Butts Day event and has a $200 scholarship attached to it.  Tiffany has already been accepted to Howard University and plans to begin attending in the fall of 2011.
