City Hall Closing

SPRINGFIELD CITY HALL AND MUNICIPAL BUILDINGS TO CLOSE AT 1:00 P.M. TUESDAY DUE TO WINTER STORM

CITY URGES PRIVATE SECTOR EMPLOYERS TO TAKE SIMILAR ACTIONS WITH STAGGERED RELEASE TIMES

February 1, 2011– The City’s Department of Emergency Preparedness and the City’s Director of the Department of Public Works has advised Mayor Domenic J. Sarno that today’s snow fall totals will reach double digits and that there is another major snowstorm forecasted for Wednesday.

As a result of today’s snowstorm and the issues associated therewith, Springfield City Hall and City satellite offices will close today at 1:00 p.m.  This closing will apply only to non-emergency City employees.  All emergency personnel positions will remain staffed.

The City of Springfield is also encouraging private sector employers to take similar actions to maintain the highest level of public safety.  These actions will help the City’s Department of Public Works facilitate a more effective snow removal process and help to minimize a potentially long, slow and dangerous afternoon and evening commute.

Residents should stay tuned to local media for whether updates and any other cancellations or postponements.
