August 6, 2010 – As part of Mayor Domenic J. Sarno’s ongoing neighborhood walk initiative Mayor Sarno, Mayoral Aide Darryl Moss, Superior Court Probation Office, Irving Lewis of the Hampden County Sheriff’s Department and representatives from the Springfield Police Department, Citywide Violence Prevention Task Force, Shannon Anti-Gang Initiative, Springfield Graffiti Remediation and Forest Park Neighbors will come together for a group walk through the Orange Street section of the Forest Park Neighborhood on Monday, August 9, 2010, at 8:00 p.m. (meet at the Hummingbird Restaurant, 347 Orange Street).

Coordinated by the Mayor’s Office, the community walks are aimed at accessing quality of life issues and public safety concerns of residents.

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno extended his appreciation to all the agencies involved in this endeavor. “This is part of the City’s ongoing effort to improve the quality of life in all our City’s neighborhoods,” stated Sarno. “The City will be gathering information and assessing potential issues that may exist in an effort to have a proactive City response,” added Sarno.

Mayoral Aide and Youth Violence Prevention Liaison Darryl Moss stated “the significance of this walk is that we will gather important information as a unit and that will allow us to plan our work from the same point of origin as we move forward.” “This type of neighborhood assessment not only puts officials on the same page, but in the same sentence,” added Moss.

Additional walks are being scheduled for other areas of the City.
