WHITE ST. SCHOOL COMMUNITY AND PARENT SERVICE DAY PROJECT

On the morning of Friday April 30th at White St. School approximately 25 parents, community members and firefighters from Engine Co. #3 participated in the White St. School Service Day Project.  The volunteers with the help of the Parks and Facilities Department spruced up the front of the school with plants, repainted asphalt games, picked up trash and raked up the playground area.  The students got to participate by picking up trash and greeting the volunteers with a thank you and posters for all of their hard work in helping to beautify their school.

The front of the school was replanted with 8 Boxwood shrubs, 36 creeping flox multi-colored flowers and a new layer of mulch.  The second area of the school that received attention was the asphalt games such as four square and hop-scotch were repainted.  The volunteers created an additional four square game area and the children were out using it within minutes of the paint drying.

The third area of attention was the playground which received a raking over and picking up of rocks and trash nearby.  The final area of attention was an overall trash and sweep clean up of the entire grounds.  Special thanks goes out to Executive Director of Parks Pat Sullivan, Facilities Director David Meehan, Principal Deborah Lantaigne, P.T.O. and faculty and staff of White St. School.
