Springfield to Perform "Operation Clean Sweep"

April 15, 2010 – The City of Springfield will bring more than 118 cases before the Springfield Housing Court (37 Elm Street) on Friday, April 16, 2010, at 9:30 a.m., for Operation Clean Sweep.  The City will prosecute exterior code enforcement violations such as litter, unregistered motor vehicles, overgrowth, etc. If the property owners do not show up, the City will seek court orders to allow the City to enter the properties, correct the violations and lien the property for the City’s costs.

The effort is part of a concentrated effort to crack down on habitual negligent property owners and reduce blight throughout the City.

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno said his Administration has been proactive in addressing the issue of unkempt properties throughout the City. “Neglected properties are breeding grounds for crime and detract from otherwise upstanding and proud neighborhoods,” said Sarno. “This Administration is committed to increasing the quality of life in this City, house by house; block by block. Operation Clean Sweep is a valuable tool towards that end,” added Sarno.

This is the first Clean Sweep Operation for 2010.
