April 16, 2010 – Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and Chief Administrative and Financial Officer Lee C. Erdmann announced today that Stephen J. Lonergan has been appointed to the position of City Collector/Treasurer. Lonergan has been servicing as Acting Collector/Treasurer since February 1, 2010, and following the resignation of the City’s former Collector/Treasurer Ehsanul Bhuiya.
Lonergan, a Springfield resident has been employed by the City since 2005. He has served on the steering committee for the implementation of the MUNIS tax module. He worked previously (2001-2005) at Federal Trust Mortgage Company in West Hartford, CT as a Manager/Senior Loan Consultant. Lonergan holds a bachelor’s degree and a Masters of Business Administration from Bentley College. He also has Certified Governmental Accountant (CGA) certification from the Massachusetts Municipal Auditors and Accountants Association.
Mayor Domenic J. Sarno stated “I have full confidence in the training, experience and common sense attributes Lonergan brings to the table.” “He will continue to advance the city’s tax revenue collection initiatives and other priorities on behalf of the City of Springfield,” added Sarno.
Chief Administrative and Financial Officer Lee C. Erdmann stated that “Stephen Lonergan has served the City as Acting Collector/Treasurer for the past three months and he has done an admirable job.”
Stephen J. Lonergan stated that he is “very appreciative of Mayor Sarno’s and Chief Administrative and Financial Officer Lee Erdmann’s confidence in his abilities and that he looks forward to working with the City’s Finance Department.”
Lonergan will continue to earn an annual salary of $84,265.
