The City of Springfield welcomes a delegation from Pskov, Russia on Monday April 6, 2010. The group visited sites including City Hall and Baystate Medical Center in order to learn how officials here tackle some of the same challenges they face at home.
State Sen. Stanley C. Rosenberg, D-Amherst, who co-hosted the visit with Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, said the exchange of information can mutually benefit both Pskov and Springfield on issues such as economic development, water and sewer services, upkeep of infrastructure and buildings, solid waste disposal and recycling, health-care improvement and human services. The two cities have many similarities including size, population, demographics and urban challenges, he said.
Mayor Sarno would like to extend special thanks to Denise Jordan, Pat Sullivan, Al Chwalek, Helen Caulton-Harris, George Rooney, Kathy Pedersen and Joe Superneau for their participation in this event.
