100th Home Purchased Through the City's 'Buy Springfield Now' Program

April 6, 2010 - Mayor Domenic J. Sarno and representatives from the Buy Springfield Now Program joined Erin Welby at her new Springfield residence today.  Welby became the 100th resident to purchase a home through the City’s Buy Springfield Now Program. 

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno stated that “the Buy Springfield Now Program is a terrific program that helps City residents realize the American dream of home ownership.”  Mayor Sarno extended his thanks and appreciation to all the local businesses for their continued participation in this endeavor.  “Springfield is a great place to live, work and raise a family,” added Sarno.  

Hampden Bank President Tom Burton stated “Hampden Bank is proud to be a part of the ‘Buy Springfield Now’ program as we encourage home ownership in ‘The City of Homes’.”  “We are very excited and proud to be celebrating the 100th Buyer,” Burton said. “This April we celebrate our 158th anniversary of providing mortgage financing for Springfield residents,” stated Burton.  “A strong residential real estate market benefits all residents and often their greatest asset, their home,” added Burton.     

The goal of Buy Springfield Now is to help preserve and promote homeownership opportunities within the City of Springfield.  The initiative establishes a collaboration of private, public and non-profit sector organizations to work together in developing ways to highlight the City of Homes as the regional home purchase destination and, to help stabilize whole neighborhoods and communities.  As a result, the Buy Springfield Now collaboration has put together the key elements that fosters and encourages home ownership.
