Acting City Collector/Treasurer Named

February 2, 2010 – Chief Administrative and Financial Officer Lee C. Erdmann announced today that he has appointed Senior Financial Accountant Stephen J. Lonergan Acting City Collector/Treasurer.

Erdmann made the appointment following the resignation last week from City Collector/Treasurer Ehsanul Bhuiya to Mayor Domenic J. Sarno.

The appointment is required for the continued operation of government for a period of ninety days, subject to reappointments, not to exceed a total of one year.

Lonergan, a Springfield resident has been employed by the City since 2005.  He has served on the steering committee for the implementation of the MUNIS tax module.  He worked previously (2001-2005) at Federal Trust Mortgage Company in West Hartford, CT as a Manager/Senior Loan Consultant.  Lonergan holds a bachelor’s degree and a Masters of Business Administration from Bentley College.  He has Certified Governmental Accountant (CGA) certification from the Massachusetts Municipal Auditors and Accountants Association.

Mayor Domenic J. Sarno stated “I have full confidence in the training and experience of Steve Lonergan, who will continue to advance the city’s tax revenue collection initiatives and other priorities on behalf of the City of Springfield.”

Lonergan will earn an annual salary of $84,265 as Acting Collector/Treasurer.
