Springfield's Inaugural Events Announced

Celebrations for the 2010 Inauguration of Springfield Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, Springfield City Councilors and Springfield School Committee Members will begin Monday, January 4, 2010 and continue on Sunday, January 10, 2010.  Festivities will mark the return to Ward Representation after 50 years.

The formal Inauguration will be held in Symphony Hall on Monday, January 4, 2010, at 10:00 A.M.  Speakers will include Congressman Richard E. Neal, State Senator Stephen J. Buoniconti and State Representative Sean Curran.  Members of the clergy will offer blessings and words of inspiration.  There will be performances by Vanessa Ford who will sing the National Anthem and the Edward P. Boland School Chorus will sing the “Springfield Song” and “God Bless America.”  The chorus will be joined by Mayor Sarno’s daughter, Chiarina.

Festivities will continue Monday evening from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. when “Bright Nights at Forest Park” will be open with free admission.  Mayor Sarno, his family and members of the Springfield City Council will be at the front gate to greet visitors.  Cookies and hot chocolate will be served at “Santa’s Cottage.”

On Sunday, January 10, 2010, at 12:30 P.M., a Mass of Celebration will be held at Mount Carmel Church, 123 William Street.  The mass will be celebrated by Father White. Also on Sunday, January 10, 2010, from 1:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M., in the Sheraton Springfield Grand Ballroom there will be an Inaugural Party.  The newly elected city officials will greet residents who will enjoy hors d’oeuvres and musical performances by Springfield High School of Science & Technology Jazz Band and Children’s Chorus of Springfield.  For football fans, the games will be available.
