May 1, 2009 - Mayor Domenic J. Sarno held a meeting today with the City’s Director of Health and Human Services Helen Caulton-Harris and other City emergency personnel to discuss the protocol that would be used in the event of a confirmed H1N1 (Swine Flu) case in Springfield. As of today, there have been no confirmed cases in Springfield.
“This is a proactive approach to a national issue that all local, state, and federal health officials are monitoring closely,” said Sarno. “At this point there is no cause for alarm,” Sarno said.
Health officials continue to urge residents to take the following precautions:
§ Cover your coughs and sneezes into a tissue or the inside of your elbow, not into your bare hands.
§ Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
§ Wash hands frequently, especially after coughing or sneezing.
§ Stay home if you’re sick, especially with a fever.
