Springfield Celebrates National Paraprofessional Appreciation Week April 3rd – 7th

Mayor Domenic Sarno and Superintendent of Schools Daniel Warwick join the nation this week in celebration of Paraprofessionals Appreciation Day, which is Wednesday, April 5th. Sarno has acclaimed the day as Paraprofessional Day in the City of Springfield.

“The City of Springfield is proud to join with the Springfield Federation of Paraprofessionals to recognize all our paraprofessionals for their hard work, dedication, and passion for the education of our city’s youth. Their work does not go unnoticed and is extremely important to the success of our Springfield Public Schools students,” said Sarno.

Every day, approximately 800 Springfield Public Schools paraprofessionals provide instructional, language, behavioral, physical, and medical support to classroom teachers and to students. Warwick said schools will celebrate the paraprofessionals in their buildings in their own ways throughout the week and he harkened back to his time as a classroom teacher when describing the “crucial” role that paraprofessionals play in the education process.

“Their impact is felt on many levels throughout the entire school, including by students, teachers, classrooms, and families,” said Warwick. “This week provides an opportunity to let our paraprofessionals know that we see them, their dedication, and the hard work that they put in daily. We are proud that the City of Springfield stands with nation in celebrating them this week.”
