Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, Ward 1 City Councilor Maria Perez, Health and Human Services (HHS) Commissioner Helen Caulton-Harris, Elder Affairs Director Sandy Federico and Mayoral Aide Mini Marrero joined with the New North Citizens Council for the First Annual Elders’ Day event at the North End Senior Center on Plainfield Street. The crowning of the first annual “King and Queen” will also take place.

Mayor Sarno states, “I want to thank Health and Human Services Commissioner Helen Caulton-Harris and Elder Affairs Director Sandy Federico for their continued efforts in engaging our seniors.  This first annual Elders’ Day is a special event for our seniors offering a variety of community programs and services.  Councilor Maria Perez and our New North Citizens Council, led by Executive Director Maria Ligus and Chief Operating Officer Jose Claudio, do such a wonderful job for our North End neighborhood and this special King and Queen Elders’ celebration is a beautiful event to honor and recognize them.”

The event featured vendors offering a variety of community programs, which promote general health, wellness and educational resources. The purpose of the first annual Elders’ Day is to provide everyone 55 years of age and older with an opportunity to explore the new North End Senior Center and all it has to offer our city’s older adults, gain knowledge, and meet community partners. The fair featured music, a barbecue, many give-a-ways, and the crowning of the first annual “King  & Queen.”

Many thanks to our community vendors who will be on hand including the city’s Health & Human Services Department, who provided valuable health information as well as FREE COVID-19 test kits, the Springfield Police Department and the Community C3 sector, the Springfield Book Exchange, Veteran’s Services, The New North Citizens’ Council, Elections Office, the Dept. of Elder Affairs and AMR!

The event was sponsored by the Department of Elder Affairs and the Council on Aging, City Councilor/Ward 1 Maria Perez, The New North Citizens’ Council and the NNCC Elders’ Committee. Many thanks to our generous supporters at the 90 Meat Outlet, Springfield Park Dept., Springfield Water & Sewer, Women of Vanguard, Springfield Pharmacy and AMR.
