Mayor Domenic J. Sarno joined to celebrate and thank Marcus Williams for his to service to our Springfield as a City Councilor for seven years, serving as Council President for the past year and a half. Mr. Williams has retired from the City Council to pursue other career opportunities. The City Council gathered yesterday to say farewell and to present Mr. Williams with the traditional presidential gavel as well as a plaque in recognition of his dedication and service to the City of Springfield. Incoming council president Jesse Lederman, Councilors Zaida Govan and Melvin Edwards, Veteran’s Services Director Tom Belton, Deputy Police Chief Rupert Daniels, City Council staff, and Focus Springfield Director Steve Cary were in attendance.
Mayor Domenic J. Sarno states, “Bitter-sweet to say farewell to City Council President Marcus Williams. We had a very good working relationship and friendship with regular meetings to discuss what is in the best interest for all in our city. Chief of Staff Tom Ashe, Mayoral Aide Lavar Click, and I were happy to join, along with Marcus’s mom who he has made so proud, to see Marcus presented with the City Council gavel and a plaque from City Council Vice President Melvin Edwards. Marcus, we wish you continued success and all the best – especially the acting gig too, hey maybe you could get me a part or two, too!”
