Mayor Domenic J. Sarno joined by Springfield Police Officer and military veteran Arjel Falcon, Vietnam Veteran, retired Sgt., 1st Class Eugene Brice and Vietnam Veteran Bernard McCluskey visited Polar Park for 413 Night at the Worcester Red Sox, “Woo Sox,” baseball game last night.
Mayor Sarno threw out the ceremonial first-pitch, - ‘it wasn’t in the dirt too!” He also did a segment on NESN’s TV broadcast of the game promoting Springfield, too. Springfield’s own Michelle Brooks Thompson sang the national anthem, and Arjel Falcon and Eugene Brice were recognized and honored for their service and sacrifices – “Gene had tears of joy in his eyes too”. The Woo Sox are a professional minor league baseball team and the Triple-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. Yesterday, April 13th (4/13) was 413 Night at the Woo Sox home stadium, Polar Park in Worcester.
Mayor Sarno stated, “What a great experience at Polar Park last night. It’s such an intimate and modern park – you’re one step away from the show. The park was filled with a family fun atmosphere with great hospitality. It was fantastic to see our own SPD Officer Arjel Falcon and former Springfield Veteran of the Year Eugene Brice recognized. They are both so humble and deserving of this honor. The trip to Worcester was well worth it for this wonderful experience. Congrats to the Woo Sox on their win and a great start to their season. I saw many familiar 413 faces and I highly recommend to our Springfield and Western Mass residents that it’s a worthwhile and short trip – you’ll love it.”
