Mayor Domenic J. Sarno issued a proclamation declaring the second week of April as National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week in the City of Springfield. Chief of Staff Tom Ashe joined with Deputy Chief David Wells, Operations Manager Jeris Mitchell, and dispatchers Michael Mason and Zachary Girard at the Springfield Emergency Communications Center to recognize and celebrate Public Safety Telecommunicators Week.
Mayor Sarno stated, “911 dispatchers and public safety telecommunicators are behind the scenes heroes in many public safety situations. Their service is critical for providing life-saving emergency services to our community. I am so thankful to our Springfield Fire Department’s Office of Emergency Communications for their dedication to keeping our community safe and helping others in times of need. In addition to the critical service they provide every day, 911 Dispatchers from across the state are engaging in community service projects to give back to their communities. Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, Fire Commissioner BJ Calvi and Deputy Chief David Wells announced earlier this month that the Springfield Emergency Communications Office will be collecting donations for the Thomas J. O'Connor Animal Control and Adoption Center during the month of April.

Canned cat and dog food
- paper towels
- laundry soap
- bleach
- blankets
- treats and toys
- financial donations to TJO
Donations can be dropped off at the Springfield Emergency Communications Center at 1535 Roosevelt Ave between 9:00 am to 3:00 pm, Monday through Friday and at the lobby of the Greater Springfield Credit Union at 1030 Wilbraham Road.
